weekend from hell just to get into heaven...

So as you may know, last weekend the family drove up to Simsbury to have Penelope baptized at the church where Elisabeth grew up. (That is not to say that Elisabeth grew up in a church.) Normally a four hour drive, I was fully expecting to go six or seven hours with the baby. God willing, she was a doll on both the ride up and back. After 4.5 hours of driving into the rain, we arrived in Simsbury in time to relax a little before going to dinner with Elisabeth's parents, my parents, and Patty and her boyfriend. Then it was back to the house to go right to bed because it was already past Penny's bedtime. Part of having a child is that her bedtime is very early, so I have no time to really do anything after it but sleep. I am upset that for the entire playoffs, I saw no later than the 5th inning of a Red Sox game. Anyway, 6:30 AM Sunday morning we got up to get Penny and Mom and Dad ready to get to the church by 8:40 AM. It was cool that most of my family were able to come up to CT to see her baptized. The service was a 9 AM, the baptism was about 20 minutes into the service, and then Penny got hungry, and pissy, and tired. I love going to church seeing half of a service, and then rocking an infant outside of 45 minutes until it is over. Anyway, it was a beautiful service, then lunch at Elisabeth's Mom and Tom's house. Lunch was nice and Penny got passed from family member to family member until someone handed her to me and Penny passed out on my shoulder. She then slept for a half hour, fed her and changed her, then she slept for 3 hours in the car on the way home, thank God. We got home around Penny's bedtime, and got her into bed and passed out ourselves. It was a long trip, but to see family and get my daughter some religion, it was worth it.

Attagirl Penny! Get some religion, so Auntie Ari can strip you of it when you get older!
