So, y'know, things are fine. TV Guide was recently bought by Macrovision and, amid various annoyances, they just announced a change in the dress code policy so that every day is now "casual Friday". That's good news, even though i will have to go buy jeans as i currently have only one pair of jeans that's suitable for work (i.e. without holes). And i just dyed a bunch of my hair with "Fuschia Flash", which is great.
But on top of just having too many important things to do today that are all supposed to be done at the same time, i've had a particularly bad morning, which i am compelled to share with you. I was in CT this past weekend, thursday night through sunday night. I got home last night around 10:45pm, got the mail out of my mailbox, took all my stuff in the house and dumped it on a table, and went to bed. This morning i got up with every intention of getting to work early (so that i could try to fit in all those things that need to be done). So i was putting away my stuff and mail, and i opened the box of Proactiv (yay, infomercial acne wash) that had come in the mail (and been sitting in my mailbox for a few days), and out spilled PILES AND PILES OF ANTS! Of course i dropped it and screamed a lot, giving some of the ants time to get away. I gathered enough wits about me to take the box of swarming ants into the bathroom, but not quite enough wits to drop it in the bathtub instead of the sink. Let's just say a long, LONG ant-swatting adventure followed, many got away, i was not early to work, and i am not in a good mood.
I also have a doctor's appointment this afternoon with my GP to see what tests he wants to subject me to re: my random bouts of tachycardia, which some of you know about, and which advanced from mild concern over my heart health to extreme panic that i'm about to drop down dead, when it struck while driving and lasted about 10 times longer than usual. So in your spare time cross your fingers that i'm not, y'know, about to die. And that he doesn't tell me that the only way i can live is to give up cheese.

Wow, that really sucks about the ants. And the tachycardia. And posting over you. But mostly about the heart thing, don't die!
I hate ants - and they probably didn't help with the tachycardia! I very much hope you get to continue a long and healthy life full of cheese...and chocolate.
My day has just gotten better and better (that was my sarcastic voice). There was a giant house centipede that disappeared after i sprayed him ("disappeared" equals "is still in my house somewhere, possibly alive"), and my garbage can (the one that goes out to the curb) is GONE. Oh, right, and i had an EKG to, as the doctor put it, prove that my baseline heart function is completely normal, and you shoulda heard the fascination in his voice as he was reading the results -- yeah, the bits where every possible place that coulda said "abnormality" did, in fact, say "abnormality". Next stop: cardiologist.
Bummer! At least you have a fascinating heart! Keep us posted on what the cardiologist says.
Good luck with the cardio doc! I think we can all state, emphatically, that the last week of June, 2008 is officially sucking.
Thanks... got an appt for mid-July. It does pour when raining... what's your source of suckiness this week?
Short answer: a coworker left after 45 days on the job, and left a massive mess that I have to clean up. Family members are sick and not in a good way. The economy is in the toilet and shelling us all.
Long answer: July is our "hard" month, in which I have to pull together our strategy and operating plan for the next year. That means building a large, complicated, and cumbersome forecasting and planning model with many thousands of inputs. There are four areas -- mine, and my three other peers. Two of my peers have it down, lock solid; we spend more time talking about why we are doing X or Y, than what we are doing and how much it will cost. (Which, of course, is the intent: discuss why you are spending the money, as a group).
My area, like the other two I mentioned, is similar. It's the largest (by $), but the second-most complicated (by sheer number of moving parts). The (dubious) honor of the most complicated goes to # 4. Well, the guy who ran # 4 before didn't do the best job on his finances; he was far better at fighting fires (and invaluable to us). The new guy was charged with fixing that very financial problem -- and we asked him to do that Day 1, so I could do other things. When he gave his notice, he hasn't done any of the financial work required -- so I've lost 45 days, and none of the items on my plate can really budge to fit in this new work. So, my schedule has to budge, and what would be a month of 90 hour weeks is rapidly approaching 120 hour weeks. Should be fun.
That does suck. Hopefully 100% of his work doesn't fall to you, since you have your own too. Dontcha wish you could call his next exployer and tell them what a great guy he is in a crunch?
Meanwhile i just found out that one of my friends has got fibromyalgia (a really bad thing) from lyme disease, and my girlfriend's dog (who does agility with us) is in the doggie ER fighting for his life from a mystery infection. Whatever is going on with the world lately needs to freakin' cut it out already.
Yikes! (Since when was there an ultimatum regarding leaving comments?) Were the ants consuming the Proactiv? I completely hate ants. I'm definitely creeped out now. So, do we think there'll be an incredibly awesome day (week!) to make up for the horror of recent days?
Yay! Somebody noticed my ultimatum! There is one since i learned i could have one (a couple weeks ago).
The ants were not eating the Proactiv. I assume they were working it into their plans for world domination. I now have new ant traps in the house and one nestled in the back of the mailbox.
Yes, i do think there will be awesomeness to balance the horror. Course, it could be, like, 40 years from now, but it's bound to happen. Oh, on the up-side, i've been thinking about my ticker so much recently that i've now got "i flubbed aginsteroar" stuck in my head. :)
